Bidirectional relationships between interpretation biases, safety behaviors, and social anxiety

چکیده
Abstract Theoretical models of social anxiety (SA) propose bidirectional relationships between SA, interpretation biases, and safety behaviors (Safe-B). However, longitudinal studies evaluating these are scarce. The main objective this study was to analyze the biases (from ambiguous situations faces), Safe-B, SA. A two-time carried out with participation 575 vocational training students ( M = 19.49, SD 2.41). Both measured through faces Safe-B predicted higher levels SA in second time. In turn, a relationship found Safe-B. no were Among others, limitations include high attrition rate (30.4%) proportion male (62.1%). findings highlight role bias as new initiative, supports Implications discussed throughout manuscript.

Safety behaviors and judgmental biases in social anxiety disorder.
Two experiments were conducted to examine the link between safety behaviors and social judgments in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Safety behaviors were manipulated in the context of a controlled laboratory-based social interaction, and subsequent effects of the manipulation on the social judgments of socially anxious participants (N = 50, Study 1) and individuals meeting diagnostic criteria fo...
متن کاملCognitive Biases in Social Anxiety Disorder: Examining Interpretation and Attention Biases and Their Relation to Anxious Behavior
Information processing biases, such as interpretation bias and attention bias, play a significant role in social anxiety disorder (Williams et al., 1997). Interpretation bias refers to the tendency to interpret both negative and neutral stimuli as more negative than they are objectively. Attention bias refers to the tendency to attend preferentially to threatening stimuli. Socially anxious indi...
متن کاملSexual Behaviors and Social Relationships
Working from a social relationship and life course perspective, we provide generalizable population-based evidence on partnered sexuality linked to cardiovascular risk in later life using national longitudinal data from the National Social Life, Health and Aging Project (NSHAP) (N = 2,204). We consider characteristics of partnered sexuality of older men and women, particularly sexual activity a...
متن کامل[Judgment of gaze direction related to social anxiety: facial expressions and interpretation biases].
The present study investigated the effects of social anxiety on judgments about gaze direction. The participants (N = 123) were divided into two groups on the basis of social anxiety scores (social anxiety and control group). Participants who scored high on a social anxiety scale judged the direction of slightly averted gaze to be straight more often for angry faces than for neutral faces. This...
متن کاملBidirectional modulation of anxiety-related and social behaviors by amygdala projections to the medial prefrontal cortex
The basolateral amygdala (BLA) and the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) modulate anxiety and social behaviors. It remains to be elucidated, however, whether direct projections from the BLA to the mPFC play a functional role in these behaviors. We used optogenetic approaches in behaving mice to either activate or inhibit BLA inputs to the mPFC during behavioral assays that assess anxiety-like beh...
